The premier of "Eyes Down/Headphones In" was really well received - as far as I could tell from the talk back session after the show. The quartet who ended up playing did a great job playing under somewhat unusual performance circumstances (try keeping tempo while dancers are flinging limbs at you).

The piece is being performed twice again this month - Jan. 28th at 9pm and the 30th at 6pm at the Cool New York Dance Festival.

I've started work on a trio for some friends of mine - Viola, Bass and Oboe. I'm at the point where I have some "sound ideas" but no real concrete idea or system yet. This is the stressful part of composing.

I'm exited for the premier this weekend of my new piece Eyes Down/Headphones In! Created in collaboration with choreographer Chelsea Koenig and her group Spark Movement Collective, the piece takes you through the world of someone who is constantly being ignored. I'm a bit nervous, though. The string quartet I lined up to play it (the Attacca Quartet, a great group of players) had a scheduling conflict and had to back out. Thankfully, they had another quartet lined up to take their spot. I'm hearing them for the first time tomorrow at our dress rehearsal. I'm sure they'll be great, but having never met, or heard them, I'm still a little on edge.

Here are the details for the show:
Date: January 16th
Time: 7:00
Location:
Green Space

37-24 24th Street, 301 & 302
Queens, NY
Cost: $10
The night will include performances by other dance companies and a talk-back session with the choreographers.

Two of my pieces (one an acoustic piece, and one an electronic remix of other music from the record) have been released on Consortium5's new nonclassical cd Tangled Pipes. The US Distribution for the disc is really good, a quick googleshopping search came up with these results. It's pretty surreal to actually have music available for people to buy. I've always been slightly jealous of people who have CDs in record stores. Now, apparently, I'm one of those people. I can't say enough how much I enjoy the whole album. All the acoustic pieces are played really, really well, and all the remixes are interesting.
